Leading the way for Africa

South Africa has become the mothership for English-speaking Africa as one one of the most accomplished nations in Africa on the Rowing front. The continent boasts approximately over 10,000 registered rowers, the majority coming from high schools. South Africa claims to have the oldest organised sports club in the continent, dating back to 1861.

There are 22 African countries that are members of the International Federation of Rowing Associations, which is the governing body of the sport of rowing (Including; Zambia, Somalia, and Lybia joined this year's congress). South africa, Egypt, Tunisia, Kenya, Algeria and Zimbabwe can claim international level athletes.


 













South Africa Rowing Association recently hosted the first ever 2012 Talent Identification Camp. This aimed at identifying talented athletes for development toward the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The camp brought together athletes and coaches from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan, Zambia and zimbabwe.
